Our Story

Hi, I’m Jamie and I set up The Hedgerow Hotel to help those in a similar situation to myself. I am a young mum to two small humans (5 & 2), four cats (10, 10, 6, 3) and three guineas (2).

Going away even just for a couple of days since we got the guineas has been a bit of a stress. Luckily I have a wonderful mum and neighbour who both come in once a day to feed the cats and guineas but if we go away for any longer the guineas require cleaning out, which is a big ask, especially for those without small animals themselves.  They also require fresh veggies every day and while I can leave a suitable amount set out for them in the fridge this inevitably won’t keep for more than a couple of days so whoever is caring for them also has to go out and buy more! Then there’s the guilt that they aren’t getting their usual exercise or interaction with myself and the kids. Add into the mix a cat with bowel issues and you’ve got yourself a full time cleaning job!

I hate to put on my friends and family but refuse to put my cats in a cattery, something I know they wouldn’t cope very well with and have no idea what to do with the guineas..  Then I thought about all the people who maybe don’t have friends and family close by or don’t know their neighbours very well and thought, what do they do?

Whilst there is a fantastic dog community in Hook there seems to be very few people offering holiday solutions for the smaller members of our family so with the help of my husband Phil and my lovely little helpers we have built The Hedgerow Hotel.  We’re not a big set-up, based in our garden at home but we can offer accommodation, fresh food and hay and most importantly exercise and cuddles. We are fully insured and have so much love to give to these wonderful, often undervalued creatures and being a small set-up means we have the time to dedicate to your pets. Between myself and Phil we have experience of dogs, cats, rabbits, guineas, hamsters, mice and chinchilla’s.
